Dr.
McGovern received his undergraduate degree from Northern
Illinois University, and his Masters’ and Doctoral degrees from
the Florida Institute of Technology. Dr. McGovern is a Licensed
Clinical Psychologist who is Board Certified in Clinical
Neuropsychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology,
the premier organization of its kind. As such, he has expertise in understanding
how behavior and skills are related to brain structures and
systems.
Practicing in Manatee County since 1988, much of his work
has focused on evaluating and treating individuals with suspected or
documented diseases and injuries of the brain. As such, he helps patients
and their families maximize their abilities to adapt to the changes imposed
upon them by neurologic and other medical conditions.
Dr. McGovern has a strong background in traumatic brain
injury and stroke rehabilitation, and he served on the Board
of Directors of the Florida Brain Injury Association from
1995 to 1998. He was also a Clinical Assistant Professor
of Neurology in the School of Medicine at the University
of South Florida from 1998 to 2001. He has hospital privileges
at Blake Medical Center and Manatee Memorial Hospital.
Dr. McGovern has been qualified as an expert witness by the courts on many occasions. In both the state and federal courts, the cases he has consulted on have addressed many different issues including disability, decision-making capacity, guardianship, the ability to stand trial, and legal sanity.
