Dr. Spellman
is a Licensed Psychologist who has been practicing in Florida
since 1987. He received his Doctorate from the University
of Texas at Austin, two Masters’ degrees from
Columbia University, and his Bachelor’s degree from the University
of Oklahoma. He is certified by the Supreme Court of Florida
as a Family Law Mediator and is a Qualified Parenting Coordinator.
He is the co-founder of the National Cooperative Parenting
Center (NCPC) with offices across Florida offering a wide
spectrum of services to the Mental Health and Legal Communities
as well as to families and children who are struggling with
divorce related issues. Dr. Spellman is on the medical staff
at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center and Blake Medical Center.
Having served as Chief of Staff at several of Southwest
Florida's hospitals, Dr. Spellman enjoys a reputation among
psychiatrists and other mental health professionals as an
astute diagnostician with training in both psychological
and neuropsychological assessment. In addition to his work
in the area of forensic psychology and the needs of children
in divorce, Dr. Spellman works extensively with couples to
help enhance flagging relationships. As a diagnostician Dr.
Spellman helps children with attention deficit disorders
and other academic challenges develop viable plans to ensure
their academic and social success. Dr. Spellman is frequently
called to consult to corporations, including small businesses
that are interested in maximizing employee performance and
tenure.
Dr. Spellman has served as a Commissioner on Florida's Commission
on Mental Health and Substance Abuse. On the national level,
Dr. Spellman was awarded the prestigious Heiser Award by
the American Psychological Association. He has been recognized
by his peers through a number of awards including Psychologist
of the Year.
