Assessment
Psychological testing, review of medical history, and interviews are utilized in the initial evaluation process
to confirm the presence and type of an eating disorder. The results of this evaluation provides a complete picture
of a patient's psychological and behavioral functioning from which an individualized treatment plan for each patient
and their family is developed. |
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is provided at least once per week, and very frequently more often depending upon an individual's
needs. Individual therapy is designed to help patients learn to reduce and control dangerous, and potentially life
threatening, symptoms. Patients also work toward a more comprehensive understanding of the causes of their disorder
and the resultant life-disruptive effects. |
Group Therapy
CPC offers therapeutic and educational groups for individuals and their families. Weekly group therapy provides support
from peers and professionals and encourages self-awareness and exploration. Patients are placed in specific groups
according to their diagnoses and level of recovery. |
Family Therapy
Loved ones are significantly affected by the emotions and behaviors of eating disorder patients. Family therapy is
required for all patients admitted to the clinic to teach families' their role in the recovery process and to increase
their understanding of the family system which may contribute to a patient's symptoms. |
Coordination of Care
Each individual admitted to the Eating Disorder Clinic must be medically monitored by a physician to ensure that
their physical condition is stable and safe for out-patient care. In addition, patients often require medication to
help manage their moods and symptoms throughout the course of treatment. A psychiatrist, experienced in eating
disorders, provides evaluation and monitoring of medications to the patient, their family, and the clinical team. |
Registered Dietician
A dietician develops, along with the patient, an individualized meal plan to meet treatment plan goals and
to promote optimum nutrition and healthy eating strategies. |
Patient Education
Education is provided regarding the medical, psychological, and social consequences of eating disorders. Loved ones are
encouraged to educate themselves in order to better understand eating disorders and recovery. |
